The UW-Milwaukee School of Architecture and Urban Planning is hosting The Cultural Landscape Foundation “Landslide 2013: The Landscape Legacy of Dan Kiley,” exhibit. This exhibit is a traveling photographic exhibition that serves as a retrospective of Kiley’s life and career, and chronicles the current state of 27 of Kiley’s more than 1,000 projects worldwide.UW-Milwaukee School of Architecture and Urban Planning and WI ASLA are collaborating to provide a half-day symposium on November 2, 2017 to welcome the exhibit.

The symposium will be divided into two sections. It will begin with a small group (limit 26 attendees) touring the Cudahy Gardens and Horse Chestnut Grove at the Marcus Center for Performing Arts, both Dan Kiley designs. The second section is open to everyone and will include a keynote presentation by Peter Ker Walker (former Dan Kiley employee and partner) exploring the works of Dan Kiley and the lasting effects of public space design followed by a panel discussion examining the complexities of design and the role of the designer in public spaces. We will conclude with a reception that will include refreshments and time to view the exhibit.

This event celebrates the work and legacy of Dan Kiley and promotes the profession of landscape architecture and the collaboration of allied professions. It is an opportunity to earn continuing education credits and network with design professionals and the public.

TCLF Exhibition / Landslide 2013: The Landscape Legacy of Dan Kiley

Dan Kiley (1912-2004) was one of the most important and influential Modernist landscape architects of the 20th century and worked with equally significant architects, such as Eero Saarinen, Louis Kahn and I.M. Pei, to create internationally acknowledged design icons.

Following the centennial of his birth in 2012 The Cultural Landscape Foundation (TCLF) created a traveling photographic exhibition that serves as a retrospective of his life and career, and chronicles the current state of 27 of Kiley’s more than 1,000 projects worldwide.
