Merit Award Winner

Project Name:  Sentry Insurance Office Building
Location:  Stevens Point, Wisconsin
Design Team:  Flad Architects

Sentry's new office building is located diagonally across the street from its main headquarters at the northern edge of Stevens Point, Wisconsin, and houses up to 600 employees. The project sits on a 13-acre brownfield site, previously home to a hotel and convention center.

The project’s prominent location at the northern edge of the city creates a unique gateway experience for the city of Stevens Point and serves as a landmark at its entry. Site features were designed to be highly visible to those passing by, but also comfortable and engaging for its users.

Sentry’s commitment to employee wellness is expressed through considerable access to natural daylight, ample views to nature and exterior gathering spaces, and a looping, accessible pathway system with sidewalks and trails connecting the site to miles of city trails and an adjacent nature reserve.

The site was organized to provide optimal solar orientation for the building to reduce energy demands, while establishing a physical and visual connection to the headquarters, and preserving space for future development along the southern edge of the property.

The client’s affinity for golf (Sentry owns and operates Sentry World, an award winning golf course in Stevens Point), is expressed in the manicured nature of the site, with its looping pathways, ponds, meadows, and planted berms.
